Movie: Curse of the Golden Flower
Rating: Die Die must watch
This is a very colourful movie. From a visual & audio perspective, i would give it full marks, though the plot is pretty simple. I am especially impressed with Gong Li's acting. She acted so well and it seems that Zhang Yimou has specially created this role for her. I cannot image anyone else who would suit this role other than her. It's a pity Chow Yun Fa did not have much space to display his acting skill. The biggest misfit is probably Jay Chow. He looks so out of place in the movie. I just can't help giggling whenever he appeared on screen. Every scene is an elaborate affair, so much effort has been put into every scene, including a scene which shows a bunch of ladies brewing medicine. I am particularly impressed with the last scene where Jay led an army into the palace to overthrow the king. The cinematics and animation was first rate, although kind of corny to have Jay playing such a role. You will be forgiven for thinking its one of his MTVs and expecting him to break into a funky dance routine!
Overall, entertaining movie to watch. Go for it!
